The papers will describe programs currently being offered to encourage women and girls to study mathematics. A wide variety of projects will be described, and the presenters will discuss what they have learned from implementing their programs.
Submit your abstract directly to the AMS. Concurrently, e-mail a one-page summary of your paper to Betsy Yanik (yanikeli@emporia.edu) and to Kathleen Sullivan (ksulliva@seattleu.edu). To help Betsy and Kathleen to evaluate the appropriateness of your paper, include as much detailed information as possible within the one-page limitation. They must have your summary and the AMS must have your abstract by Friday, September 15, 2000. They will notify the AMS that your paper has been accepted (unless they approve your paper, the abstract will not be published nor will you have a place on the program.)
The abstracts for the talks in MAA sessions will be published in the journal, ABSTRACTS OF THE AMERICAN MATHEMATICAL SOCIETY, which is distributed on site (free!) to all interested meeting participants. Your abstract must be submitted on the appropriate AMS form. Electronic submission is available via the Internet or email. No knowledge of TeX is necessary, however, coding in LaTeX and AMS-LaTeX can be accommodated. These are the only typesetting systems that can be used if mathematics or special markup is to be included. To see descriptions and to view the electronic templates available, visit the abstracts submission page on the Internet at http://www.ams.org/abstracts/instructions.html, or send e-mail to: abs-submit@ams.org, typing HELP as the subject line.
Abstracts submitted electronically are quickly either acknowledged, with a unique abstract number assigned to the presentation, or rejected, with a short message on what information is missing or inappropriate. All questions concerning the submission of abstracts should be addressed to: abs-coord@ams.org.
Here are the codes you will need:
Meeting Number: 962
Event Code: MAA CP R1 SUBJECT CODE: R1
Please note that on the abstract form is a field for you to check if you believe the paper would be of interest to undergraduates. These papers will be flagged with a solid triangle in the meeting program. Please Note Abstracts received after the deadline will not be published, nor can speakers/titles be published in the meeting program.
Standard audio-visual equipment in all session rooms is one overhead projector and screen. Blackboards are not available. Other equipment MAY be authorized if the case can be made that it is absolutely essential for the scientific integrity of your session, and all, or most, speakers will need this extra equipment.
Organizers and speakers must pay registration fees.
Once the talks have been scheduled, the program and abstracts will be viewable on e-MATH, http://www.ams.org/meetings, by following the links to the meeting program.
Thank you for your interest in Outreach Programs for Women and Girls!
