6-10 mm in diameter; orange-red to dark purple 1 seeded drupes; dry and sweet
Mainly in river valleys, also on upland slopes and bluffs in mixed hardwood forests
Perfers moist soils; however is not suitable for areas with a high watertable
In poor, dry sites, growth is so stunted that the plant appears as a shrub.
