Sized to fit an average adult male's hands

Gauge: 4" swatch = 20 stitches across and 28 rows


Materials

  • Patons Kroy Socks Jacquards (1 skein should be enough)
  • Patons Classic Wool Merino (1 skein)
  • 4 size US4 (3.5mm) double pointed needles
  • 2 stitch markers
  • Small Stitch holder
  • Yarn needle or large darning needle


Instructions

Body of Mitten:

Holding one strand each of the Patons Kroy Socks Jacquards and Patons Classic Wool yarn together, cast on 40 stitches

Divide stitches on three needles (13,13,13+1), joining in the round

Row 1: Purl the first the first stitch through both the first and last cast on stitch, then purl the remaining 38 stitches
Row 2: K39
Row 3: P39
Row 4: K39
Row 5: P39

Rows 6-18: K39 (i.e., knit 13 rows in stockinette)

Row 19: K19, place marker, K2, place marker, K18
Row 20: K19, slip marker, kfb (knit forward back), kfb, slip marker, K18
Rows 21-24: K13, K15, K13 (in other words, K41 for 4 rows (4 stitches between markers))

Row 25: K19, slip marker, kfb, K2, kfb, slip marker, K18
Rows 26-29: K13, K17, K13 (in other words, K43 for 4 rows (6 stitches between markers))

Row 30: K19, slip marker, kfb, K4, kfb, slip marker, K18
Rows 31-34: K13, K19, K13 (in other words, K45 for 4 rows (8 stitches between the markers))

Row 35: K19, slip marker, kfb, K6, kfb, slip marker, 18
Rows 36-38: K13, K21, K13 (in other words, K47 for 3 rows (10 stitches between the markers))

Row 39: K19, slip marker, kfb, K8, kfb, slip marker, K18
Rows 40-42: K13, K23, K13 (in other words, K49 for 3 rows (12 stitches between the markers))

Row 43: K19, slip marker, kfb, K10, kfb, slip marker, K18
Rows 44-45: K13, K25, K13 (in other words, K51 for 2 rows (14 stitches between the markers))

Row 46: K18, kfb, move all 14 of stitches between the markers to a stitch holder, kfb, k17

Row 47-59: k13, K15, K13 (in other words, K41 for 13 rows)

Row 65: Bind off in knit


Thumb:

Move stitches from stitch holders to two DPNs (7 on each)
Pick up 6 or 7 stitches from the open area

Thumb Rows 1-6: Knit in the round (stockinette) for six rounds

Thumb Row 8: Knit row
Thumb Row 9: Purl row
Thumb Row 10: Knit row
