Knit three rows (stockinette)
Switch to yellow yarn, knit four rows.
*sl1, k1, psso* until three or four loops remain on the needles.

Ear Flaps

With burgundy yarn, counting from the join, count 2 and then pick up six stitches.
Knit first flap:
5 rows of stockinette (starting with purl)
(Row 6): slip purlwise, purl, slip passed stitch over; purl until 2 stitches remain; purl2tog.
(Row 7): sl1, k1, psso (one time); knit remainder of row until 2 stitches remain; k2tog
(Row 8): Purl remaining 2 stitches together.

Count 5,
Pick up six stitches, knit second flap as above.
Cut two short lengths of burgundy yarn, add one to the end of each ear flap.

Pompom

Using all three colors of yarn, wrap yarn around two of your fingers eight or nine times and cut. Cut a length of yellow yarn (around 8") and either use a crochet hook to fish it between the two fingers wrapped with yarn or roll the yarn off your fingers and set the misformed ball on top of the length of yellow yarn. Tie a tight knot. Fish the long ends through the hole on the top of the hat and secure. Weave in all ends (except the ones at the end of the ear flaps) and cut the sides of the pompom.
